Selma has come a long way from its roots as "A Peach of a City" and the "Raisin Capital of the World." While still proud of its strength in the agriculture hub of the west, Selma is a rapidly growing community of 25,000 residents. It offers a prime location for business and recreation activities, situated approximately 200 miles from both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The main entrances of Kings Canyon, Sequoia, and Yosemite National Parks are just 70 miles away and the Central Coast is within a short drive of less than three hours.
Hometown events and locally owned businesses, along with national retailers, make Selma a full-service community. Within a 15-minute drive time, there are approximately 154,000 people shopping in Selma. Selma’s downtown, industrial and commercial developments have all become a great source of community pride in recent years.

Transportation
Major Roads
Highway 99 and 43 run through the City of Selma, while Highway 180 is 11 miles north, Highway 41 is 15 miles northwest and Interstate 5 is 52 miles west.
Rail Services
The San Joaquin Valley Railroad (SJVR) operates 371 miles of track across California and connects the cities of Firebaugh, Fowler, Huron, Kerman, Kingsburg, Mendota, Reedley, San Joaquin, Sanger and Selma with Fresno. The SJVR interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad at Fresno, Goshen Junction and Bakersfield, and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe at Fresno and Bakersfield.
Bus Services
Local transit service is provided by Selma Transit through the Fresno County Rural Transit Agency. The Southeast Transit provides service to Fresno from Fowler, Kingsburg, and Selma. There is Greyhound bus service available in Fresno, while Orange Belt Stages and other contract providers are available. The most recent additions are transit service to Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Airport
Selma Aerodrome provides private services in Selma. Fresno Yosemite International Airport is 20 miles northwest offering passenger/freight service to major markets.

There are a variety of local community colleges which have both college transfer and vocational programs available. They include Reedley College, West Hills Community College, Fresno City College, Clovis Community College, College of the Sequoias, and California Christian College (private).
Central Valley Training Center
The California High-Speed Rail Authority has partnered with the City of Selma in the creation of a workforce development center that provides pre-apprenticeship classes and hands-on construction industry training for residents up and down the Central Valley who are looking for work on the nation’s first High-Speed Rail project. This center and its programs are aimed at serving veterans, at-risk young adults, minority and low-income populations between the counties of Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Kern, Madera and Merced. There are many vocational schools in the area that provide training in a number of disciplines. They include Alliant International University, DeVry University, Fresno Institute of Technology, San Joaquin College of Law, and San Joaquin Valley College.
